Summer in Terneuzen

The weather hasn’t been very summery in July, but August is starting to look better. We have spent some time on work, and some time on the website; still adding pages for the new girls (Lilu, Piri and Tinie) and the litters that didn’t have their own pages!

Bombur is still settling in – we enjoy his energy and friendly nature a lot. He plays a great deal with Tinie, who was the youngest one until Bombur came along! Tinie is not quite 14 months old now. We have taken the summer off from shows, but we will hopefully be back in the Autumn with our team of Lilu, Piri, Tinie and Bombur.

MandalaDax Website Update – Coming August 2023

We will be working on updating our website over the next month – we have had a busy few years with buying the Tiny Teckel House in Terneuzen, leaving Czechia for good, showing loads in several new countries and winning lots of titles, especially with Makar, Belle and Dreamer.

Yestie also won veteran titles in 6 countries from November 2021 to December 2022, she was already 9 when she started showing and most of them were during Summer 2022 when she had turned 10.

It was also lockdown and Covid, which you would think would be the best time for me to update the site, but I had taken a new job and spent a lot of time working from home on that — and somehow, updating the website was always on the bottom of my to do list.

Sadly during these past few years, we also lost Vicky, Willow, Tolka and Kina during – four our first five girls, only Yestie is still with us, she turns 11 in August 2023. We will try to have our update finished in time to celebrate her 11th birthday.

We will add all the details, also for our litters “F”, “G” and “H”. And our new pups who have joined the MandalaDax family! the big news – our latest addition is a standard shorthair – Bombur Capax Venandi, now 18 weeks old!

“E” Litter pups

They have the lovely character of their mum TooToo and the laid-back personality of their dad Makar, they are just the most adorable three boy pups you have ever met.

“D” litter pups

Just as smart and savvy as their mum Yestie and with the laid-back personality of their dad Makar!

These pups are a joy! Five girls and one boy – and we have kept the boy (top photo)

“C” litter puppies

I can only say that they were the most charming Black and Tan pups I have ever seen!

Rose, Cami, Charmer and Ted!

Puppies!!!

We are so very proud that Makar sired three litters in 2019, with Mandaladax Antique Peony (C litter), with Dachshaus Yesterday (D litter) and with Dachshaus Haiku Pup (E litter). We have had a wonderful time watching these puppies grow and and go to their homes.

We are very grateful for the help we have had from our friends in the UK to enable this to happen! And I am happy to have work in the UK as well which means we still are able to go up and back – and it isn’t so far from our tiny house in Terneuzen. No one ever knows what the future will bring, and Brexit is a worry – but for now we are happy that some of our pups are in homes in the UK and others are in Belgium, Holland and in the Caribbean. And we have two boy pups in co-ownership with a friend in Belgium.

Looking forward to 2020 being the year of showing our boy pups. And I hope another litter with our dear Belle perhaps! We loved our litter adverts done by Maja Rasic!

Massive Update – 2019 to date!!!

We have had a wonderful 2019 — you will remember in 2017 we brought our first boy home with us from Moscow, our Makar (Eschio Odno Chudo iz Mishkinogo Doma).

We showed him throughout Winter 2017/2018 and then all of 2018 and into 2019. Thanks to the help of many friends in the UK, we are very pleased to announce that we have had three litters from Makar during 2019 (from Peony, Yestie and TooToo – our C, D and E litters). Finally I have been able to bring my keepers home to start to show! I will be posting about each of the litters on their own pages. And our keepers will get their own pages! During 2019, we also gave up our home in Czechia. We loved the years we spent there, the dogs loved running in the fields. But it was sold to someone else and we are now splitting our time between working in the UK and living in Terneuzen. We don’t know what the future will bring – but we are sure Brexit will make it more complicated.

We have just returned from a holiday in Croatia with shows around the Balkans, we had a great time and had some wonderful results. My happiest day in showing was Saturday the 14th September, when my own bred puppy from Yestie and Makar, MandalaDax Dream Pup (Dreamer) became 3rd Best Minor Puppy in Show at the Osijek CACIB show in Croatia. First time I have had a podium for a puppy that I have bred, and I was super proud of him!

Daisy, the daughter of our Star, bred by Ted Jones, has done really well this year, she had Best in Group 4 in Genk LKV in early 2019, and then she went with Makar to spend the Summer and Autumn in Croatia. Daisy was Best in Group at the Zagreb Hunting Show in July, Daisy was also BOB at Split and became Split Winner 2019. She is being shown and is co-owned now with a lovely family in Split, Croatia. More about her on her own page over the next days.

Makar has had some good results as well. He was Best in Group -2 in Velika Gorica, in Croatia; then had 2x Best in Group -2 podiums at the International Dog Shows at Gradiska, Bosnia and Herzegovina. He is also staying in Croatia this Autumn, to work on his working dog (hunting) certification with our friend in Zagreb. More about Makar will be updated on his page as well.

Berlina!

Our beautiful Berlina, almost 11 years old – my first dachshund, still dearly loved by me. Alyssa and I got her as a puppy in 2008 after my difficult months of hospitalisation, when I decided in recovery that having a constant companion would help! Thanks to this girlie I made it through a tough year or two. We loved walking in Battersea Park several times a day – and Berlina was the perfect dog for a flat – she literally never barked!

Alyssa went back to the US after graduating in 2011, and Berlina moved back to be with Alyssa at the end of 2011 (whilst I was taking care of my brother Paul in Texas).

Berlina never made the trek back across the Atlantic to Holland, she has lived with Alyssa (and Paul) ever since – but she did convince Alyssa’s mum Lorene to fall in love with Dachshunds as well.

I love this girlie and I think she looks great for almost 11! She is silver dapple with not much dappling – it was more obvious when she was a puppy! She is still KC registered in both of our names, I never exported her to the US.

Can’t believe it has been a whole year!

One year ago today, we were in Moscow – I was reunited with Yestie and her puppies and we did the paperwork so I could bring Makar home with me. We call 3 October his “Gotcha Day” because that is when he was transferred into my name.

The trip to pick up Yestie and the Pips was 4,500 kilometres up and back from our holiday house in Czechia and we did it in 6 days – it felt like a real marathon.

I think that is the longest I have ever driven to pick up a puppy!!

Then we drove to take the puppies to their new homes in England and Scotland – that was another 4,500 kilometres and another 5 days! Going to be doing something similar in a few weeks to take our guest up to her home in the North of Scotland.

Makar has been the most amazing addition to our family. And with Yestie and Belle, they still seem a family unit a year later, hanging out together and often sleeping one next to each other (next to me)!
